Pumpkins! Oh my!

On Thursdy, October 24th our class carved pumpkins! We had small groups and each group had a pumpkin and a volunteer. It was fun because we got to grab the goo from the pumpkin. We then got to tape the template onto the pumpkin. After we put the template on the pumpkin we started to tack the design. Our pumpkins looked great! 

Monsters at Work!

Today we started learning how to tell time. We played "hip hop around the clock" and then completed a time activity! We also tweeted about our learning! Follow us at @room14monsters

Magnet Mania

Today we had magnet mania. 

During magnet mania, there were different stations that we had to test if the items were magnetic or not. One station had thumbtacks. If you put your magnetic wand overtop, the thumbtacks would attract and attach to the magnet. One item that was not magnetic was an eraser.

Other items that were not magnetic included Lego, pens and the handle part of a pair of scissors!

We had lots of fun! We hope to explore more with magnets!

Daina's First Visit

Today we met Daina. She is our TIA artist this term.

She was teaching us how to pretend to be a mime. 

We were pretending to hit the tent poles into the ground with a hammer.

On the third hit, we had to pretend that we hit our hand.

On our camping advance true, we had to pretend that there was a boulder in our campsite.

Daina had us trying to lift the boulder. Then we tried to push the boulder. We also tried scaring the boulder away. 

We pretended to turn ourselves into super strong humans to finally lift the boulder out of the way!

We had a fabulous first visit with Daina!

We are looking forward to her next visit!

Our homework: Pretend to be a mime. Practice on walls at home. Remember to was your hands before you touch the walls.

An Amazing Friday

Our Awesome Friday

On Friday, October 4th, 2013 we went on a hike to Isbister Park! It was a lot of fun! It was really cold, but we faced the fall breeze! We collected rocks, twigs, sticks and leaves. We needed these items to make our mini-campfires. When we were on the hike, we sang " A Hiking We Will Go!" But before we went back to school, we played at the Isbister Park play structure! In the afternoon we built our s'mores. We went to the staff room and it was awesome! Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Turnbull saw us making our s'mores and they were very jealous. Ms. Nevieri was the chef! When the s'mores came out of the oven, they were steamy, hot, gooey and delicious! In the end, we had a ton of fun and we would want to do it every single day.....but, Ms. Nevieri might have a problem with that. :)

Thursday, October 3rd

We had math centres today. 

This is a game called Buzz. 

You must answer the question on the end of the stick, and if you get one that says Buzz, you have to put all your sticks back.

At this centre, we used Wikki Sticks to make camping words.

At this centre, the first person takes a card and reads if the questions are equal. If the question is not qual we put it in the false pile. If it is true, it goes in the true pile. 

This afternoon we learned how to read maps. We talked about keys, symbols  and played around with ms. Nevieri's ipad compass. It was really cool!
